Arctic Monkeys to Headline Reading and Leeds

This snow in New York might suck and might be destroying any and all plans that I had but, for all you Brits and people who can afford to fly across the pond, there is great news; the Arctic Monkeys have just been announced as headliners for Reading and Leeds. Pretty exciting news for the boys who are going to play MSG in just a few days.

Other acts announced are The 1975, whom I love, The Courteeners, another band I love, and Architects, who are AMAZING. The party kicks off August 22nd and goes through the 24th. More info can be found at their site

The Cure Announce New Album Plans

The Cure have announced their plans to release a new album this year. Tentatively titled "4:14 Scream", it will be the follow up to 2008's "4:13 Dream" and will be joined by a series of live concert DVDs and a 'Trilogy' style tour.

And, no, 'Trilogy' style tour doesn't mean something like a Lord of the Rings or Star Wars tribute. Back in 2002, the Cure premiered this new kind of tour where they played three of their albums- Pornography, Disintegration, and Bloodflowers- in their entirety. There was a 2011 follow up featuring Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, and Faith.

The Cure will be returning to the stage as soon as March 28th and 29th when they'll be taking over London's Royal Albert Hall in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Hopefully all this new music and touring will mean the lovely Cure will be coming to New York. I didn't get a chance to see them at MSG the last time and I need a chance to redeem myself. *sigh* Besides, I hear that "Just Like Heaven" is pretty good live.

Music and the Super Bowl

I'm not a huge football fan. I'm more of a soccer (football to the rest of the world) enthusiast with a healthy obsession with snowboarding (I have a whole playlist dedicated to Shaun White). Yet, somehow, every year I am subjected to the Super Bowl. This year, mollified by a new pair of colorful Asics and a Disney trip later this week, I quietly sat down with the fam to watch the brutish display of...well, I can't really say athleticism but that is neither here nor there.

For once, I was actually entertained. There were singing Muppets (ANIMAL!), a new U2 song , Bob Dylan promising me America is going to make my car, and, my personal favorite, Bruno Mars and the Chili Peppers!

U2 Releases New Single...For Free

While you attempt to ignore the travesty that is this lovely Super Bowl Game (I'm actually so entertained by this train wreck it's not even funny), maybe head on over to iTunes and download U2's new single. Not only is it phenomenal but through tomorrow at 11:59PM EST, Bank of America will download $1 to (Red), aiding in the global fight against AIDs.

So, use that time you would spend cringing and screaming and possibly throwing your 40s at your brand new 60 inch screen bought especially for tonight downloading a song for a good cause. You'll save the $1.29 you would have otherwise spent on the song AND that new 60 inch that you know you'll regret breaking.
